MOOver PLACING SIX BUSES INTO SERVICE THIS FALL
Release Date: September 22, 2025
WILMINGTON: The MOOver will be placing six used buses into service starting in early October.
The company has been purchasing high quality used equipment for the past three years. On average, three used buses can be purchased for the price of one new one. Delivery of new vehicles takes over a year, while used buses can be purchased within four-six weeks.
Each bus is carefully examined before it is purchased and undergoes the usual 100-point safety and maintenance inspection checklist before it is placed in service. All of the vehicles purchased by the MOOver in recent years are low mileage buses operated in areas with little or no snow or salt use, and thus no undercarriage rust.
Three of the buses will operate in Wilmington and three in the Brattleboro or Rockingham region. They range in size from 8-30 seats, and all feature wheelchair lifts, bike racks, ski racks (if operating in a resort area), and security cameras.
Typically, a bus takes two weeks to be readied for use. A cell radio, camera system, digital advertising display, exterior window ads, driver supplies, and placards need to be installed. The bus is thoroughly cleaned and undercoated. And of course, the spots are drawn and added. For this batch of six buses, five will have dark chocolate brown spots.
“Riders will be hard pressed to discern a used bus from a relatively new one,” said Randy Schoonmaker, MOOver CEO. “By purchasing used buses, we can replace older vehicles faster and maintain fleetwide safety and performance standards better.”
