MOOver PURCHASES THREE USED BUSES
Release Date: May 8, 2025
WILMINGTON: The MOOver is buying three used buses to replace vehicles that will soon be retired.
The company has recently begun purchasing high-quality low mileage used buses instead of new ones. It can take up to 16 months to receive a new bus order, and the MOOver can purchase two or three vehicles for the price of one new one.
“The perception is that used buses are old, tired, and on their last legs. We have found vendors who have buses from mid-Atlantic and southern states that have no rust, are low mileage, and were used by nursing homes and town recreation departments. These vehicles are built to the same specs as our new ones. The vehicle quality is high and we are able to keep better pace with fleet replacements,” said Randy Schoonmaker, MOOver CEO.
These three buses are Ford chassis, with seating ranging from 12 seats plus room for two wheelchairs to eight seats and room for four wheelchairs. The latter configuration is especially helpful as the demand for serving riders with disabilities continues to increase.
These will be the fifth, sixth, and seventh used buses that the MOOver has purchased since 2024. The price for all three buses is $120,970, compared to $175,000 for a single new bus of that size.
Medium-sized buses must run for at least six years and travel at least 150,000 miles before they reach the end of their useful life. The MOOver has 66 passenger vehicles ranging from 3-43 seats.
All vehicles – new and used – are thoroughly inspected before purchase and become part of a year-round preventative maintenance program.
