SCHOONMAKER RETIRES FROM MOOVER

     WILMINGTON: Randy Schoonmaker, founding Board member and CEO of The MOOver, retired on June 30 after 30 years with the company.

            Schoonmaker, along with fellow original Board members Linda Anelli, Bob North, and Susie Haughwaut, founded the non-profit Deerfield Valley Transit Association (DVTA) in 1996. Originally designed to serve Wilmington and West Dover, the company added routes and services south to Readsboro, north to Wardsboro, east to Brattleboro, and west to Bennington.

            In 1998 Schoonmaker left the Board to become General Manager. In 2015 the company acquired the assets of Connecticut River Transit and went from a five-town territory to 34 towns. He became CEO of the combined company called Southeast Vermont Transit (SEVT).

The company is nicknamed The MOOver because of its spotted Holstein cow design on its buses. Artist Skip Morrow made every bus a unique canvas to draw the spots. The MOOver has provided almost 6,500,000 rides in the Deerfield Valley since 1996 and has always been fare free.

Christine Howe is the new CEO. She has been with the company since 2017 as General Manager of the Wilmington Division and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2021. She will be responsible for managing almost 100 staff members during the winter months, 67 buses, 23 fixed routes, and 26 demand response routes.
